Rémy Kusters (Principal Investegator)

Hi, I am Rémy, a research fellow at CRI Research in Paris. The research interests of my team are primarily the data-driven discovery of physical models from biophysical data. With a background in theoretical biophysics and soft matter physics I try to leverage the increased power of data science and in particular machine learning to discover physical models form experimental data.

During my previous research experiences I have modeled the growth and physical regulation of dendritic spines and the mechanics of the cytoskeleton. Alongside I picked up some more generic soft matter projects, examples of which are the crowding induced clustering of active particles under confinement and the role of crowding in diffusion curved environments.

Gert-Jan Both (PhD Student)

I am Gert-Jan and I started as a PhD student working on a combination of physics and machine learning techniques to develop new tools access previously accessible information from experimental data. I will study emergent phenomena, i.e., how the microscopic interactions of filaments lead to macroscopic (visco-)elasticity of networks. I approach such problems from the macroscopic side with (preferably) deep learning approaches, while still applying physical models to rationalize these resuls. In my previous research I worked on analyzing and building a model for the biogenesis and biomaintenance of the Golgi and on building magnonic crystals.

Camille le Scao (Intern: 09/2019-01/2020)

Camille will work on the model discovery of bacterial growth models using classical approaches as well as the DeepMoD toolbox.

Alex Brandon-Bravo (Engineer: 11/2019-6/2020)

Alex works as research engineer developing DeepMoD. In particular, expanding the scope of its general applicability in the context of discovering models described by ODEs in multi-regime visco-elastic materials. He has a background and an interest in interdisciplinary science, having previously studied natural sciences at the University of Bath and researched the material properties of glasses and optoelectronic communication hardware.

Jonathan Bac (Intern: 01/2019-03/2019)

Jonathan worked as Intern to create a classifier of visco-elastic models based on the stress-strain curves. This type of classification can be used to characterize materials and infer their corresponding relaxation times and moduli.

Subham Choudhury (Intern: 02/2019-07/2019)

Subham joined the team as intern in February 2019 and worked on analyzing single particle tracking framework and is implementing this in DeepMoD toolbox analysing e.g. chemotaxis, diffusion, advection diffusion processes.

Thea Chrysostomou (Intern: 04/2019-...)

Thea works on the model discovery of bacterial growth models using the DeepMoD toolbox. She will, in collaboration with Jake Wintermute, measure, analyse and infer bacterial growth models in cell culture dishes.
